Electric Yellow Labido

(Labidochromis caeruleus)

Labidochromis caeruleus

I had two of these guys, but labidos are not nearly as aggressive as the other cichlids in my tank. One of them succumbed to fright almost immediately.

The remaining labido has been bullied and picked on so much that eventually someone took a massive bite out of his belly, just in front of the anal fin. I was sure he was a gonner (being about 7/8ths of a fish at that point), but he kept eating and managed to survive and entire week before getting fungal fin rot on the wound.

You can see the dent just in front of his anal fin in the picture on the right.

So I faithfully moved him into a hospital tank, treated with MarOxy and left for Xmas break. When I came back, he was still alive, mostly healed and currently only has a slight cloudiness in one eye! I've moved him onto tetracycline food. As a tribute to his ordeal, I've named him Eric, the half-an-electric-yellow-labido.
