In which our heroes ...
Orhan 3 Day 57 TE 6063
We get down to the secret room beneath the altar and find piles and piles
of bones.
Orhan 3 Day 58 TE 6063
We talk to the high priest of Phaon in Relian and fill him in on the
evil plot of the temple of A'talakan. The high priest says that he will
do some divinations and see what's up with that. We are instructed to
wait a day and see what's up.
We decide to have a nice dinner while Imre's station chief investigates
further.
Orhan 3 Day 59 TE 6063
We hear from the temple of Phaon. They saw a big dark space and a sheet
of flames. As if a big piece of paper had burned. We attribute this part
of the vision to Oathar. Then they saw a ring of priests standing around
an altar beseeching their god for something, and a giant eye came up upon
the altar and peered around. It stared off into the distance and then
communicated something back to them, and their hearts burst into flame
and darkness enveloped them.
Imre thinks that they are coming for us. So does everyone else.
We debate where to go to be ambushed. Or if we should be the ambushers...
It takes a while. Eventually, we decide to wait until around 4pm, pre
ourselves into oblivion, teleport to the roof, take out the guards, and
then drop in and sack the temple.
Our preparations cause a tiny essense storm as we spend over 500 power
point in a matter of rounds. Then we teleport to the temple of Atalakan
roof. We see nothing. Imre blows through the roof. Or he tries to, but
his spell bounces. Imre gets the feeling that we are being watched while
be tries to get through the roof. His spell bounces again. We drop in
into the main temple and see the altar. The whole temple seems empty.
Power perceptions reveals that sure is an altar. The walls are defended,
etc.
We pour holy water on the altar. It hisses. Imre tries to implode it.
It implodes, and suddenly all the braziers go out. Everything goes dark.
Blinky looks around, blinks once and goes poof. We look around. with utterdarksight
and cast utterlight, and the like. We hear voices all around chanting.
There are no circles on the ground or anything. There a thin trail of
smoke from the extinguished trail of smoke that goes up and becomes a
small face. Oathar realizes that an avatar of Atalakan himself is coming.
Everyone prays. Imre, Oathar, and Alynna get some buffs from their gods,
Kyrik, Haeraan, and Imre summon other minions to help. We see dozens of
ghostly sacrifices lying around us. We buff further.
Lightning rends the air and a dark swirling erupts where the lightning
used to be. A'Kal'a'tan materializes. He's twelve feet tall. He has a
pusling reddish aura, surrounded by a field of darkness (negated by our
utterlight). He casts. We fight. He's AT 11, DB 155. Kyrik, with a strike
of incandescent glory, strike him for 154 with multiple crits, and all
kinds of stuff. Wow, he's cool. We're totally going to honor him when
he's dead.
Kyrik continues to bash the dark god's avatar while the rest of us try
to draw aggro but fail. Perhaps we weren't trying too hard. But Kyrik
keeps pouring in the damage. He bleeds like a pig, but Imre tries to stay
in from of the fountain that is Kyrik.
Atalakan pelts us with spells and his burning/freezing sword, and it's
all pretty horrible. We barely stay up.
It gets worse as every time we spend fate points into negative land,
he harvests them all up and uses them to deliver multiple attacks a round.
Still, we pour damage into him, and keep ourselves mostly healed. Once
the three minions show up, they take up the healing slack. Still, it's
pretty grim.
At one point, Imre heals the entire party back to full. Moments before
his killing retribution, Alynna deals the 1000th point of damage, and
A'Kal'a'tan goes down.
They body is completely vaporized. His spirit must retreat to Charon
and recover for at least 10d10 days.
The temple collapses into the ground while we flee.
