In which our heroes ...
Orhan 2 Day 14 TE 6064
Oathar and Alynna head out into the town and make some contacting rolls. The local criminals tell us to come back toorrow night if we are looking for work.
Imre gets a primer on the language to use with his spells.
Then people hang at the inn to wait. The talk of the people at the Inn is that the Star of the Empire is in port. The flagship itself. Very exciting. Biggest ship on the sea. It'll be here for a week or so.
Later that night, Alynna and Oathar still disguised as elves, head back to the inn to make contact. She introduces them as Alynna and Oathariel of the H'Range forrest. We're here to hang out after fencing our lootz. They think about giving us some work.
Are we lifters or cutters? Well, we say we're lifters. Sadly, they're looking for cutters. They want us to steal the Tax Seal. It's in the magistrates office. The safe it's kept is in is magically sealed. There are patrols in the halls, and some sort of guard thing in the office itself, but no one knows what that is. The thieves also mention at Alynna's prodding that the flagship is here to solidify it's hold over the other kingdoms.
We head home to regroup.
Orhan 2 Day 15 TE 6064
Imre goes to the magistrates office to scout. He's told that the approved religions in this area are: Kuor, Rianne, Valrine, Eissa, Kieron, and then also Locktay, Moray, the Maker, the Father/Mother, Ramoth, Ephrese, and a bunch of other people no one's ever heard of.
Imre acquires a form for Registry of intent to create temple., and temple approval confirmation form, approvial of new god form, etc.
Alynna and Oathar start the break in. There a magic lock and a perimeter ward on the door. Oathar cancels the wards on teh door long enough for Alynna to get us in there. We give the guard dog the sausage of sleeping, and we head on in. The door to the magistrates office is trapped and warded with silence. Oathar looks in and sees the usual office things plus a big safe in the corner. Also there is a big lizard like thing in there. Yup, that's a basalisk. Oh dear.
Bravely, Alynna goes in by herself to deal with the basilisk in blind fighting combat. After the first few round, Oathar sneaks in to help. He doesn't really help much. It brutalizes us a bunch, but then Alynna kills it.
There is a physical trap and a spell on the safe. The safe has a resist fire spell and Kyrik's picture spell.
We get in the safe open and start taking stuff. There's a number of sets of papers, but Oathar doesn't read the papers. The safe also contains 1000 gold. And the seal!Alynna also finds a false back to the safe. Behind it is some sort of mechanism. It's got a couple of buttons inside that go elsewhere, but no more money, so we leave it alone. We check out the basalisk lair before leaving. There's lots of basilisk maintainace stuff down there, and a nest like thing. We also get a scroll case.
It's an attractive ivory scroll case. It's not really cursed. The runes are translatable, but the language is not one I know. After some translation, it's a pointer: "I have found it! The outcast's secrets shall be mine. None will stand before me when I master these powers." "I have followed the lost river to its source. There I found the first marker. That led me to the second marker and there I plunged down into the depths. In the great scar that was created in the hellfire wars, I found the cache of the Ebom Mage."
We also translate the papers from the safe. There's the bribery log. There's also a bunch of strange deeds to random business and things in the name of the king.
Orhan 2 Day 16 TE 6064
There's a report that someone robbed the magistrate's office last night.
Sadly, they have a god of blood. So they can pretty much just point to us, so hiding anywhere nearby isn't gonna work. So, we have to flee the country. So, Alynna and Oathar need to get out of town for a while.
Alynna and Oathar go to the Great Library of Nomikos. We research the god of blood and Ebon Mage. Man, those people have a lot of gods. The ebon mage came from the late 3400 and was all about dimensional magic and planar interfaces. But he blew up the mountain range about 150 miles wide. Hordes of demons were released leading to the hellfire wars.
