Unlike the Authorization, Function, and Person List screens, the "Qualifier List" displays a hierarchy or tree of qualifiers.
For most Selection Sets within the Qualifier List screen, you see a familiar tree format that shows you which qualifiers are children of others.
To expand a branch of the tree, click on the [+].
To contract (hide) a branch, click on [-]..
The Qualifier List screen displays the following fields for each qualifier:
(an icon) An icon associated with the Qualifier Type Qualifier Code A 1-15 character code for the qualifier Qualifier Name A description of the qualifier. Unlike other List windows, you cannot select more than one qualifier at a time. And there is no Qualifier Detail screen.
As of this writing, the following Selection Sets are available for the "Qualifier List" screen:
- Flat list of qualifiers
- This is the only Selection Set for qualifiers that is not a hierarchy.
To search by qualifiers, specify a Qualifier type and a Qualifier name or Qualifier code. Specifying Qualifier type alone is not allowed, because Qualifier type does not limit the search sufficiently. Qualifier name has two criteria for Qualifier name starts with... and Qualifier name contains ....
Use the "starts with..." criterion whenever possible; it is faster and puts less of a load on the Roles Database.
- Hierarchical list of Cost Objects
- This shows a hierarchical list of Cost Collectors from SAP.
To change the number of hierarchy levels shown, change the number for the field Number of hierarchy levels shown. If you specify a number higher than three or four, you'll wait a long time for the results, possibly several hours, so don't do it.
The Qualifiers are descendants of... field is an option that lets you specify a Qualifier Code as the root of the tree to be displayed. This can be handy if you only work with a set of Cost Objects associated with a single department or laboratory.
To see only the Cost Objects of interest to you, specify the root node for your department or laboratory, and click the Save Criteria Seln button.
- Hierarchical list of Org. Units (Personnel)
- This shows a hierarchical list of Organizational Units according to the Personnel and Payroll departments.

You can specify a starting Qualifier Code other than the root node to display only a branch of the tree. You can also specify a Function Name, and the display will give you only qualifiers that you can specify when creating new authorizations with the given function.
