Exercise does a body good, strengthening muscles and bolstering bones, blood vessels, and the immune system. Now, engineers have found that exercise can also have a significant biochemical effect on the growth of individual neurons.

Admir Masic studies ancient materials, such as Roman concrete, to address modern problems involving sustainability and climate change. “We should think of these materials as a source of valuable information that we can try to translate to today,” he says.
