Road to Tahoe.
Here we are. Never been here before. Stayed in South Lake Tahoe and
had I been here before I would have dropped in on the north
side. Though at least there's stuff to do here at night which of
course after a day of skiing and/or driving you're ready to tear up
the town.
Overlooking the lake from the south.
Paul & Yoko at Heavenly.
Heavenly is a fairly mellow
mountain but has spectacular views of the lake. Maybe not so mellow
for Sonny who met his
fate a a year
before but hard as a tried I couldn't seem to recreate the
incident.
A fine place to go for the first ski day on this trip.
A border with no weigh station.
I knew that we were on the California-Nevada border but I didn't expect
this. Plenty of signage keeps you abreast of what state you are skiing
in. I suppose that means certain things are more legal on some trails
than others. It's all rather strange but fortunately it's all the same
time
zone or I would have been really confused.
Somewhere a bit south of the lake.
Tahoe is a really neat
place. There seems to be plenty to do all year around and once you get
out of So. Tahoe it's incredibly beautiful. You seem to have all the
essentials at your finger tips - skiing, hiking, sailing, biking (if
you ignore that angel
movie where she died
at the end), running and gambling. We really stopped in because we had
never been here before and it seemed like it was on the way to
Utah. Glad we did. If you haven't figured it out the grand plan is to
fly out of Salt Lake at the end of the month (we're simple folk) but
based on the next couple of weeks this may be difficult to
understand.
Squaw Valley (Yoko needed to stop and take a picture).
The next day we skied Squaw. Cool
mountain (it would be my favorite in the area until Kirkwood replaced it). Yoko is
really into the Olympic
thing but the unusual feature is the swimming pool
mid-mountain. I never thought to bring something to swim in.
Spring conditions were beginning to emerge so we were anxious to
get moving. We're still just getting started.
