EXPLOITING THE SITE

TREATING THE EDGES OF THE SITE

 · The Design Proposal intends to ‘open’ out views from the road into the site, by breaking down the existing boundary walls and clearing out vegetation carefully and selectively, along Haverford avenue and 48th street, to achieve this effect. The whole length of these edges will be treated, while internally, the design of the courses will be limited to the left of the football field.

 · The notion of the buried creek will be subtly reflected in converting the deep swale along Haverford Avenue, which is below the level of the rest of the ‘plateau’ like site, into an open channel of water.

The Football field is to be sheared to the east, to accommodate the two courses and a suitable buffer to it's left.

ENCOMPASSING OTHER RECREATIONAL SPACES

 · The generous size of the site enables the concept to encompass other open spaces and activities at intersections, thereby punctuating the game of golf, and extending the limits of the design proposal to a larger range of recreational activities and character of spaces created.

About two acres is occupied by the total scheme of 36 holes. The 18 holes will be wrapped around spectator spaces and fountains, reducing visibility between adjacent holes, thus increasing the mystery in the game.

The course of the future 18 holes, for now, will be a distant ocean of green, which people will look onto during time intervals between playing two holes.
