SENSE OF PLACE

 · The essence of the design, is to create two sets of 18-holes of the game of miniature golf , divided by the line of the creek. The first set of 18-holes reflect the tight grid-pattern of the present, while the second set reflect the broader grid of the past, and are encompassed by an edge that is curvilinear suggesting the pleasure grounds that existed on the site in the past.

1. Thus the scheme consists of juxtaposing the Grid with the curvilinear forms, the new with the old and the first 18 holes with the future 18 holes.

2. Along the edge of the division are accomodated Punctuations of Fountains and Open Air Theatres.

3.The light green intersecting squares represent the spectator spaces, in and around the 18 holes.

 · The main issues confronted in the Mill Creek neighborhood today, are due to rapid urbanization that has taken place over the years, with a grid that has intensified over time. The design thus interlaces this image of the Grid with the game of Golf.

 CONCEPT OF THE CREEK

The creek dividing the two courses is parallel to it’s original location, along 46th street.

The Design detail consists of treating one edge as "built", with paving and the other as "unbuilt", with grass cover, allowing excess of water to spill out into fingers as shown.

The "creek" is more a symbolic feature with a seasonal flow of water.
