CONTRIBUTION OF WATER and PAVING TO THE DESIGN

WATER PASSING BELOW THE PAVING

At the final hole the water is not visible to the eye, but can be heard as is made possible by concealed gutters and water flowing over stones and pebbles. At this phase one can realize that the Mill Creek is indeed a subject of the past. Here an awareness towards the lack of water is generated.

WATER PASSING THROUGH SPACES IN THE PAVING

At some intermediate hole the water begins to flow through the spaces created between the paving. In this way the pedestrian can see the sourse of water gradually diminshing as he or she proceeds towards the end where there is no water.

PAVING

The paving material also undergoes a change from hole 1 to hole 18,starting with compacted earth and leading towards asphalt. In between the pedestrian goes past cobbles, grass joint paving, concrete slabs. The paving also contributes to how the water flows off it at different stages, more towards the end and less at the start.
