BACKGROUND / APPROACHES
Built 35 years ago, the Golf Farm is traditional
in its approach, where
considerable thought has been given to the challenge offered at each hole.
Built 4 years ago, the Pine Canyon Golf
course is very commercial in its
approach, the theme of Waterfalls, overpowering the actual attention to
the game of golf...
CONTEXT
Contextually, both courses are located in the suburbs of New Jersey, closely
linked to Residential neighborhoods, Shopping malls, Restaurants, etc.,
USERS / Social Implications
Both courses attract people from Cherry Hill, Voorhees and Philadelphia
as well. However, the Pine canyon Golf
course is far more popular, attracting thousands of people every weekend,
in contrast to the handful of people that visit the Golf Farm.
-The Pine canyon course is also designed
with a special route for the Physically handicapped.
-The miniature golf courses are used by the very young and the very old,
and form a family event rather than an individual sport.
COSTS
The estimated cost of a miniature golf course with 18 holes in the present
, is in the range of a quarter to half a million dollars.
TOPOGRAPHY / LOCATION
The Golf farm is designed on flat terrain,
while the Pine canyon course has artificially
created levels.
Both courses are strategically located on the main road, to attract business.
MATERIALS / ELEMENTS
Both fairways have astroturf and similar waste bins. The benches are rustic.
-The Golf Farm has simpler materials with
painted kerbs, asphalt pathways,grassed transition areas and wooden structures.
-The Pine canyon course has exposed brick
kerbs, concrete paths, water bodies, timber and rope fencing, pebbles and
rock gardens in the transition areas.
VEGETATION
The Golf farm has tall trees providing
shade but equal amount of leaf litter.
The Pine Canyon, has shrub trees and shrubs
which are evergreen and low in maintenance. No overhead shade is provided,
the water providing a cooling effect.
EDGES
The edges of the Golf Farm's miniature Golf Course are defined with chain link fencing on two sides and timber fence on the sides that face the main golf course. The Pine Canyon Golf course has a transition of green mounds with trees that divide it spacially from the road. Internally there is a subtle transition between the miniature golf course and the main one by the club house on stilts.
