Overall Room Design
The entire room is 144 square feet, with 10 foot high and 12 foot wide walls. For purposes of clarity, the rendered walls and floor are untextured, but in the actual room, they will be given a surface treatment to look like cement or stone.
The room is dominated by a platform with a footprint of 78 square inches, taking up more than half the room's floor space. The platform consists of a step surrounding a well. The top of the well is covered by a clear plastic sheet to prevent cheating, and the ropes that extend outside of the plastic are how players play the game and complete the challenge to beat the room.
Well Design
The well is the main element in this room, standing 4.5 ft tall with a 4ft diameter. The 1 ft tall step (not pictured, see step design below) will allow adventurers to look into the well and see golden eggs on the bottom, tentacles in the middle, and baskets on the top. The well is comprised of subparts including: the eggs, the egg "claw", the tentacles, the baskets, and the outer wall of the well.
The eggs: The eggs as modeled are 4 inches long and 2 inches wide. The would contain enough ferous material so that they could be picked up by an electromagnet, and would be able to withstand being routinely dropped from the baskets to the base of the well.
The egg "claw": The egg "claw" is an electromagnet connected to five ropes which can be pulled by the players. The "claw" will hold the egg until it either detects it is above a basket, or it detects that one of the tentacles has been bumped. These detections are being worked on by our "more sketch models" subteam.
The tentacles: The tentacles are static barriers the adventurers must avoid to successfully bring the egg to the basket. These design of these tentacles are being worked on by our "more sketch models" subteam.
The baskets: Are simple baskets on an actuated hinge. During the game the baskets will stay upright. At the end of the game the baskets will hinge down to drop the eggs and reset the game.
The outer wall: The outer wall is comprised of two by 4s formed into a cylindrical shape with metal rings - a common design for hobbyist well-makers. This entire surface may then be painted, or covered in a manner to give the 2.5D theme of a brick well. The top of the well will also be covered with clear polycarb, or other similar plastic to prevent players from reaching into the well.
Step Design
The entire platform is 1 foot high and has 2.5 feet of clearance around the well. Its central shape is an octagon, comprised of 8 symmetric sections, and there are three additional triangular sections to fill in gaps where people could potentially fall or get stuck (these can be seen in the first image)
The construction of the step is purely out of 2 by 4s and 3/4 inch thick plywood. The plywood is reinforced with a frame of 2 by 4s and then elevated by 2 by 4 legs. Not pictured here are the plywood sheets that would cover the front and sides of the step, to make it look solid. All exposed surfaces will have a similar surface treatment as the walls, to make it look like cement or stone.
