Overall, I would say that the process of adding value to my CharlieCard is comprehensible and not misleading. Most regular riders I surveyed agree that while complicated at first, the entire process is easily learned.
The options I was given at every step were for the most part what I expected and I knew what I option I was looking for going into each step. This makes the process fairly quick, but there are still so many steps that it can cause a line to form even with experienced users.
