Self-service car washes gained its popularity by appealing to auto-owners as a cheap, flexible alternative to its automatic counterparts. It provides the basic equipment one would need to clean a car – ample space, pressure washer, soap, and a brush. Few may also have additional service options such as wax and paint protectants. These car washes cater to a very diverse group of users – they could be (but not limited to) teenage drivers, busy working class, stay-at-home moms or retired elderly. While some of these users may simply looking for a quick rinse for their cars, some are also trying to give their cars a thorough cleaning and would bring their own extra tools (such as buckets, wash mitts, rags, etc.) to ensure that they would be leaving with spotlessly clean cars.
Given the wide range of users, self-service car washes are designed to give its users the maximum flexibility in how and when to clean their cars: customers get to choose the cleaning functions and durations desired (and thus the extent of cleaning), an option that is not usually offered in automatic car washes. These car washes are mostly unmanned and are usually open 24/7, and the customers could visit the car wash whenever they want. However, since these car washes are mostly not staffed, the whole process has to be as self-explanatory and easy-to-use as possible. Check out the procedures of using a self-service car wash!
