If we break down a user's experience with the mouse into a control diagram, we notice a critical feedback loop, illustrated in the figure below.
Similar to a joystick or wheel of a car, the user does not get visual cues directly from the motion of the mouse, but indirectly from the screen response. The only direct feedback is haptic, feeling the change of position of the mouse relative to the table. A key opportunity for frustrating the user arises here. Although the user can compensate up to a certain amount with discrepancies between mouse motion and pointer motion on the screen, inaccurate or lack of feedback can quickly become very frustrating.
