Experience

The KIC scanner comes in a variety of configurations and models, but the one tested has a V-Bed (2) that allows books to rest in their natural position without any pressure on the binding of the books. The scanner user experience can be divided into three main categories: Modifying, and Sending. Scanning, Modifying, and Sending.

Scanning:

There is also a secondary attachment scanner (1) that scans loose paper in a quick continuous automatic manner.

The "True 2 Touch" interface (4) is used through a large touch screen supported by a monitor (3) that displays the pages scanned in an easier and larger to see screen.

The scanner also has a smaller secondary screen, located below the V-Bed, for quick scanning bed changes that can also be done in the main display.

The scanners V-bed platform is on the left of the touchscreen and has 2 main configurations: flat or bent.

Brightness, contrast, resolution and color settings can be adjusted before scanning and can be changed post-scanning from the modify menu. The KIC scanners' main use is for students scanning textbooks or other journals in similar configurations, however if an object requires a flat plane you can adjust the settings to scan the entire bed in one sweep instead of splitting the left and right sides like it does in default.

After placing your book on the platform in either the flat or bent configuration, scanning can begin.

If a textbook is being scanned the book has to be positioned in the midpoint of the bed to correctly split the left and the right pages automatically. If the scanner makes a mistakes the image can be manually split or un-split from the modify menu. The scanner has an alignment laser that can be seen in the image. This helps you align the book in the horizontal direction.

Scanning multiple loose sheets can be done easily by the secondary attachment scanner. Feed the pages through the top of the scanner and select the attachment scanner from the main menu in the "True 2 Touch" interface to switch from the overhead scanner. Specifying double or single sided is necessary before pressing the same SCAN icon on the main menu. The loose pages will all be scanned continuously until all have been scanned.

Modifying:

You also have the option of deleting and cropping images from this menu. You can drag the corners to crop unwanted parts of the scan and confirm by pressing the clip button on the top part of the screen. You can either choose to keep or delete the original scan that is being edited. To delete an unwanted scan, you can press the "delete current image" button twice.

Sending:

The last part of the scanning process is to actually output it. The KIC scanner offers a wide variety of outputting methods including email, USB, QR code scanning, cloud storage and smart docking for a smartphone or tablet. You can output the scans in several file formats ranging from searchable PDF to individual JPEGs.

Once sent you can choose to continue outputting, continue scanning, or to end your session. FINISHED!
