So Veronica waited for the King to notice that she was missing. While she was waiting, she saw more people come in and be sent away. Gadgets were being placed in this corner by one set of Royal servants and being taken out of this corner and moved downstairs by another set of servants. As Veronica watch the Woodcutter return with his uncle, the Toymaker, and present to the King a rattle*, she realized that the fact that the presentations of these gifts were still going on confused her. "Isn't all this for me? How could they continue when I am not even watching?"
"Because it isn't for you," answered a doll that Veronica had banished earlier. Veronica hadn't realized that she had said her last statement out loud.
"What do you mean?" Veronica asked.
"All of this is for the Princess," the doll replied.
"What do you me.." But Veronica could not finish her statement because the pile she on started to move. The servants had reached her pile and was moving it out of the room. Another bump on the pile by the servants made Veronica fall into the pocket of one of the dolls. The last thing she saw of the throne room was theToymaker giving the rattle to the Princess.* "What is going on?" Veronica said when she finally was able to catch her senses. No one answered her.
Veronica was carried outside and dumped on a pile. "How can they do this to me? I am the Royal ring."
"Hey, everybody. We are dealing with royalty," jeered a magic wand. Then all the other gadgets started to laugh and tease Veronica. Veronica began to cry. This was not the way she thought she would end up at all. She missed the King. She missed the Royal throne. She even missed the Royal crib. Then she remembered the cruel way she treated the Royal crib and the words that the crib had told her. This made her even sadder.
