Assignment 1

  • Encounter at Dragon's Tooth

The selection is rather straitforward story, where most of non-linear work is exploratory: searching rooms and view signs, etc. However, because of this, some of the text is confusing, with odd placement and statements and dialog which don't make sense until other links have been visited. See first page.

On the other hand, the links to each character's point of view and information are quite useful and fun.

  • Lifeboat

Unlike the previous example, this selection is in the form of a role-playing game, with several (6) different characters. Instead of one reader traversing through one story or world, 6 individual players each have a character. The actual events of the game are not pre-determined in any standard way; there are infinite possibilities of events, instead of a finite number of story paths written beforehand.

The characters in this selection tend to vary between different styles, which lead to different experiences for each player. Some are oriented towards fixed set of goals, and placed in competition with other player-characters, such as Bruce Banner. Others can be set up in a situation with which they must deal, without having many specific gols for the game. Someone playing Ralph Hinkley, for example, would mostly experience things happening _to_ him, as opposed to running around trying to get certain stuff done.

  • Paranoia

(to run Paranoia: at athen%, type "add outland; paranoia")
