First Day of Classes (Tuesday, 2/2)
January 21, 1999
Important: 6.033 will hit the ground running on Tuesday, Feb. 2 (the first day of classes) by holding recitation section meetings that are not just organizational and administrative--they will have real content as well.
Attend the recitation section assigned by the registrar. During the first lecture, we will handout recitation sign up forms. On the form, try to pick a section with an instructor you have not had before. We will balance the sections after the first week or so.
We will distribute hardcopies of the schedule, administrivia handout, and assignment at recitation.

In order to help to as many 6.033 students as possible, the Writing and Communication Center has added the following extra hours:
We have added extra tutors for these hours. Tutors will work only with 6.033 students.
To schedule an appointment, send an e-mail request specifying your name and the date/time you wish to schedule for a 30-minute appointment to:
writing-center@mit.edu
Students need to plan realistically when to have a draft done and make an appointment for that date. (Please note that the email sign-up for appointments is only for these special hours and for the students in 6.033.) Email appointments will be confirmed and students will receive a reminder notice 24 hours before a scheduled appointment.
In addition, of course, 6.033 students may use the Center's services during our regular hours (10:00 a.m.-noon, 1:00-6:00 p.m.). The Center's regular appointment slots are usually reserved a week or two in advance during March, so students should call (253-3090) as soon as they can.
Making an appointment early is the best way to guarantee an appointment when you need it.

As announced in lecture today, there is an error on Page 3-32 of Handout 5. In the paragraph starting with "A class of algorithms...", Line 9, replace "secondary" in "pages in a secondary memory of size n" with "primary". The correct text should read "pages in a primary memory of size n". This is also posted on the Errata page.

An Errata page has now been created. Errors in handouts will be posted here.
Extension on Kerberos One-Pager
April 5, 1999
Because the chapter on security has only become available today, we are granting an extension for the Kerberos one-pager. You may turn it in during Thursday's recitation. However, you still need to read the Kerberos paper for Tuesday. This is a paper that requires lots of thought to digest. We will dive right into the protocols on Tuesday.
