8.022 at ESG
Fall 2004
Subject Information

Syllabus

8.022 at ESG covers classical Electricy and Magnetism (E&M), using the tools of vector calculus, and with an approach that is more theoretical than practical (but practical applications are not entirely disdained).
The topics covered are those in Chapters 1-9 of the text, Electricty and Magnetism by Edward M. Purcell, Second Edition. This is Volume 2 of the Berkeley Physics Course. Chapters 10 and 11, new additions to the Second Edition, will be covered if time allows. Appendix A, A Short Review of Special Reltavity will be covered and augmented as needed. There will be some supplements either given online, taken from 8.03 at ESG or swiped from the Physics Department.

Schedule

In flux, but the current class group meeting times are Monday and Wednesday from Noon-1PM and Fridays from 10AM-11AM.
Problem sessions, formal or informal, seem to be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
