The Ph.D. degree requires four or more years to complete and
encompasses both coursework and research. Students conceive
their research topics through deliberations with both the
Singapore and MIT faculty and assessed for their relevance and
importance to Singapore and the region. The research projects are
then closely co-supervised by the MIT and Singapore faculty.
The second phase of SMA has one direct Ph.D. degree programme,
the CSB programme leading to the award of an NUS/NTU Ph.D. degree
with an SMA certificate. The Ph.D. degree is conferred by the Singapore
university the main Thesis Advisor is attached to.
