How Do I set directory permissions?
You may notice that the Properties and Security tabs will not appear on files and directories which come from AFS . You cannot set NTFS permissions on file and directories stored in AFS. The only way to set an ACL on AFS is to use the "fs" command-line utility. At a command prompt, "fs la" will list the permissions for a directory (fs la i:\, for example) and "fs sa" will set the permissions for a directory (fs sa i:\ system:anyuser all, would give all users full access to your home directory). "fs help" will give you the full list of options.

How Do I attach an AFS locker?
AFS lockers can be attached to Windows drive letters by using the 'attach' command. To attach a locker, open a command prompt and type attach -Ddriveletter lockername - for example 'attach -Ds 1.0056' would attach the locker 1.0056 to drive S:.
To detach a course locker you would type detach -Ddriveletter - for example 'detach -Ds' would detach the locker which was mapped to drive S:.

What are the H:, I: and Z: Drives For?
When you log on to an Windows Athena machine, three drives, H:, I: and Z:,
will be mapped for you.
- The H: drive is set to your home directory in dfs (a windows file system). This is
useful, as the command prompt in windows will tend to initially present
you with the H: prompt. Also, when saving data into your home
directory within the Windows graphical interface, it is convenient
to be able to select the H: drive.
Within the H: drive (your dfs home directory) the two directories related to the WIN.MIT.EDU machines are "H:\WinData\" where the majority of your data is stored, specifically in "H:\WinData\My Documents\" which is your "My Documents" folder on the desktop and "H:\.winprofile\" where your profile data is stored (program preferences, registry settings, etc.).
- The I: drive is set to your home directory in afs (the athena file system). If you save data within the I: drive this will be accessible via Athena and Windows Athena, whereas the H: drive ins only accessible via Windows Athena machines.
- The Z: drive is set to the root of AFS, which on Athena
Windows machines is called "\\afs\all\." This is useful for
programs which do not work with UNC path names (names which begin
with the double backslash "\\"). Some programs will require the
path to start with a drive letter. In this case, use Z:. For
example, you cannot "cd" into "\\afs\all\athena\project\pismere,"
but you can "cd" into "Z:\athena\project\pismere."
