C. The use of implanted electrode arrays


Were one to place a large array of equally spaced electrodes into this area, as shown in Figure 3 , which are connected to a camera with similarly equally spaced elements, activation of the cortical tissue would create a distorted image as demonstrated in this figure. The camera views the letters FIAT LUX which activate the electrodes in V1 as shown. The image so created, because of the magnification factor, would produce the percept shown in the visual field on the right.
