Why Use the Internet?

Computers have made available to everyone an amazing resource of the internet, full of information, connections, and support. According to Nua.com surveys, nearly 100 million US adults seek health information online every month. Most use the internet as a health resource about three times a month, but heavy users may do so as many as six times a month1.

Every day more and more people are using the internet to communicate with others and to research answers to their questions. The promise and wealth of information and connectedness of the web far exceeds the time needed to learn how to use it.

The internet has become a useful way to send messages. You can e-mail, instant message, find support groups, find medical information, get news from around the globe, and almost anything else you can think of!

The World Wide Web is a big collection of "stuff" that people across the globe thought was worth sharing with you. Internet web sites are maintained by private individuals, service organizations, governments, and companies. The challenge for the web navigator is to sift through everything to find what you want.
