Cartel 2007 Logistics

Network Access

Let's get right to the most important issue: wireless network access will be provided. I will get all non-Carnegie Mellon folks a guest account so they can log on to our wireless network.

Meeting Location

The School of Computer Science has graciously offered us a room in Newell-Simon Hall for the meeting. We will be in NSH 3305 for all of the meeting except for Wednesday, July 11. On Wednesday, we will be in NSH 1507. Check out the official campus map for the location of Newell-Simon Hall. (Note that the map doesn't orient North at the top of the page).

Meals

A continental breakfast and lunch will be served all four days. We're planning one dinner event for Wednessday evening. If you have any dietary resrictions, please send mail to Alice Brumley abrumley@cmu.edu with the details.

Wednesday Dinner

We will be dining at the Melting Pot in Station Square. There are enough people with cars amongst the Carnegie Mellon folks, so we can provide rides for our guests.

Local Transportation

There are a few options for getting between the airport and hotel.

  • The average taxi fare from the airport to the hotel is about $35.00. We recommend that you arrange a pick up from the Yellow Cab 412-665-8100, Peoples Cab 412-681-3131 or Checker Cab 412-381-5600. You should probably make prearrangements for taxi services.
  • The county bus system has a shuttle called the PAT 28X that goes between the airport and Carnegie Mellon campus. It's a little less convenient, but only costs $2.25 (cash-only) each way. The shuttle stop at the airport has a sign listing the schedule; it tends to run three or four times an hour. For returning to the airport, the shuttle has a stop right across the street from campus. If you want to stop at your hotel first, check out Google Transit for the best way to transfer from the 28x to another bus that will stop closer to the hotel.
For getting from the hotel to campus and back again, the hotel will provide shuttle service. For the Thursday evening dineer, we will arrange for transportation.

Hotel

A block of 15 rooms are contracted for the Cartel meeting in the hotel just a few minutes away from campus. When you call to make a reservation, just mention that you are with the Carnegie Mellon University Cartel Meeting. They should give you a better deal than what you can get via the website. I didn't get an internet code to use to get the discount (sorry!) so you will have to call them directly.
