Dear subscribers:

It is less than a month until FESPACO. The festival seems to be slowly
getting organized. I got a letter from them saying that (unlike last time)
they were unable to partially support my attendance. They said, "FESPACO
can issue a name tag to you after a lump sum payment of CFA F15,000 (FF150)

to give you access to official functions." So I guess I even need to pay an

entrance fee this time.

I've heard from friends that have a film in the competition in Africa that
they have not even gotten any response from FESPACO despite many queries.
Last time they got their airfare, hotel and meals covered.

I'd appreciate hearing any information anyone has received from FESPACO or
other tips that we could share on this listserver. Anyone that is attending

also, please let me know and perhaps we could meet. I'd like to see some
subscribers face-to-face and gather feedback on what you think of this
listserver, etc. I'll be staying at the Hotel Independance, and could
probably receive a note there.

Also we are planning a dinner for film distributors. If any of you are
distributors, please email me and let me know where you will be staying, and

I can get an invitation to you, once we select a place and time.

One tip is to be sure to bring a photo for your ID badge. I sent one in
last time, but it got lost, and so I had to spend quite a while getting
another taken.

Following is the contact info for FESPACO:

Mr Baba Hama
Secretarait General Permanent du FESPACO
01, BP 2505
Ouagadougou 01, Burkina Faso

email: sg@fespaco.festival.bf
fax: 011-226-312509
Tel: 011-226-307538

This listserver will probably be inactive during the festival as I'm not
sure I'll be able to get email. Has anyone heard of any means of getting
email from FESPACO? I remember last year having to cue up for the one
international phone in the lobby of the Independance and that it cost a
fortune for a couple minute call.
