Dear Steve,
I too have not heard much from the FESPACO offices and my latest film,
MOTHER OF THE RIVER is in the festival (at least as far as I know). Maybe
the financial situation in Burkina is much worse than it has been in the
past, which is why we have to pay for hotel, meals and tickets? now. Oh
well, I am sure that this will not deter the vitality of all of us gathered
to celebrate African and African diaspora film. We might go a little
hungrier this time - we'll all have to get full on strawberries and
mangoes:-)
There are 3 of us going from Northwestern University - myself, (Zeinabu
irene Davis filmmaker/professor), Ph.D. candidate Haseenah Ebrahim, and
Professor Manji Pendakur, all of the Radio-TV-Film Department. We are
going as representatives of the African Humanities Institute of the
Program on African Studies to interface with selected fellows in a program
between the University of Legon and Council for the Development of Social
Science Research in Africa. Also from Chicago will be Alice Stephens of
Columbia College who does the wonderful African Film Festival in the Spring
in Chicago. Looking forward to hearing who else can go, Sincerely,
Zeinabu
