Translation of Papyrus #31, Batch #7, Site A

Translation by Dr. Sarah Mercer

The noise heard before from the lights no one know caused terrible damage to the structure inside. The chamber stones above the sarcophagous are cracked. Ehab cut one of them when work was not as finished. Workers fear a falling of the roof in the tomb. Imhotep says all will work. He stands at the top of the pyramid and looks towards (royal, forbidden) area. Face tight, (worn, old).
In this papyrus, Ehab explains how the support stones above the Kings chamber cracked. Indeed, the stones are cracked and the spaces above them were explored by Colonel Howard Vyse of England in 1842. He crawled into those spaces though a small tunnel carved into them (possibly even by Ehab himself) from the gallery.

The writing is worn slightly and it is impossible to make out royal versus forbidden without the aid of equipment back in the States.
