Welcome!

Have you ever noticed ... well, at MIT, I guess that it is hard not to notice ... the bulletin boards around campus? What role do they play in the MIT community? How are the bulletin boards and their posted information perceived?

The current study is a user experience analysis performed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on the general-use, public bulletin boards around campus. These bulletin boards are used for advertisement purposes. This is not a study of bulletin boards in general. However, based on experience*, the author feels that many aspects of this study can be extrapolated to all general-use, public bulletin boards, especially those at other universities.

  * The author has attended four universities over the past nine years for at least one semester. She has viewed the advertisements and posted ads on the bulletin boards at all of them. Additionally, the author has lived in seven different cities during the past nine years for at least a four month period.
