Order Keys and Lock Services Online
There are no charges for our basic key and lock services, but there are charges for special services, so be sure you have a Cost Object you can use to order special services. Basic Services include issuing a key to a new employee or replacing a damaged key or broken lock. Special Services include installing, changing, or replacing locks and installing a lock for a short-term use. Please note that there is a charge for bulk key orders of 10 or more copies of the same key.
Keys
Ordering Keys
To order keys go to the Building Services tab in SAPweb. Under the heading Basic Services click on Keys. Fill out the online form and click Submit. Save the MIT Key Request Form as a PDF.
Next, email the PDF to a Key Authorizer for your DLC. The Key Authorizer reviews the request and if approved will forward the request via email to key-request@mit.edu. The Key Authorizer will receive an email notifying him/her when the keys are ready. Keys should be picked up at the Customer Service Center in Room 7-019. Pick-up times are from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday. In order to obtain the keys, you will have to show a valid MIT ID and sign for the keys.
Returning Keys
When keys are no longer needed, key holders may return their keys to the Key Authorizer in your DLC with a completed Return Form or return their keys in person to the Customer Service Center in Room 7-019. When dropping off keys in person, please bring your MIT ID with you.
Locks
Repairing existing locks and door hardware are community services. To have a lock repaired, go to the Building Services tab in SAPweb. Under the Repairs heading click on Buildings. There is no charge for this service.
Changing or installing new locks is a special service and includes a fee. Go to the Building Services tab in SAPweb. Under the Special Services heading click on Locks.
