Welcome to the Figueroa Group's homepage! Our experimental
cosmology and astrophysics laboratory is part of the
MIT Kavli Institute for
Astrophysics and Space Research and the
MIT physics department.
Our goal is to understand the building blocks of the Universe, from the fundamental particles that make up dark matter to the formation and dynamics of structure at the largest scales.
As an experimental group, we attack this problem by applying cryogenic sensor techniques to both dark matter detection and X-ray astrophysics.
Our inter-disciplinary work takes us into the fields of particle
physics, astrophysics and cosmology, solid-state and
low-temperature physics, and engineering of both space flight hardware
and large cryogenic systems.
