The Compound Semiconductor Research Group is located on the third floor of the Center for Materials Science and Engineering at MIT. We have two Riber 2000 solid-source III-V compound semiconductor MBE (molecular beam epitaxy) machine, a custom-designed UHV hyperthermal dry etch reactor, full electronic and optical characterization laboratories as well as semiconductor processing and fabrication facilities. Most of the equipments and facilities are run and maintained by the student group members. Each group member usually grows their own heterostructures, process them, and characterizes their devices.

Our primary interests are in optoelectronic integrated circuits (OEICs), novel III-V compound semiconductor heterostructure device fabrication, processing, and characterization research. Currently, a large effort is put into our new Optochip Project.

The research group consists of visiting scientists, visiting professor, and graduate students from many different disciplines. Here are the list of people who make things happen around here.

Professor Sheila Prasad
e-mail: prasad@mtl.mit.edu
Professor Prasad is a visiting pprofessor from Northeastern University in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in Boston, MA. Her research group primarily investigates the electrical device properties of high-frequencyand high speed solid state devices and circuits.

Joe Ahadian
e-mail: joeah@oevlsi.mit.edu
Joe is a graduate student in Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences. His project is on optoelectronic integration.

Henry Choy
e-mail: khchoy@oevlsi.mit.edu
Henry is our new addition to the group, and is a graduate student in Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences.

Donald Crankshaw
e-mail: dscrank@oevlsi.mit.edu
Donald is also our new addtion to the group, and is a graduate student in Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences.

Isako Hoshino
office: Room 13-3082
phone: (617) 253-0830
e-mail: isako@oevlsi.mit.edu
Isako is a graduate student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Her project is constructing a UHV-compatible hyperthermal molecular beam dry etch reactor to etch III-V compound semicondustors. She is also the current web master and sys admin for the group.

Janet Pan
