About: reluctance to reveal emotion?

The thing that struck me the most about the interaction of
the men with each other and with the baby is the fact that
the 'trois hommes' seemed to have more believable affection
for the baby, but were afraid to let it show. On the other
hand, the 'three men' had no problem telling each other that
they missed the baby, but it didn't seem to me as though
they were as attached to the kid as the French men were. Are
the French in general reluctant to show their feelings, or
was this just for the purposes of the movie? I don't actually
think Americans are less affectionate, but the superficiality
of the movie didn't allow for anything genuine to leak through
to the viewer. I guess what I mean to say is that is was too
Hollywood to feel real.
