Hi
Arnaud
I think that in general when someone talks about a
"good" relationship, no matter what kind, they are usually
talking about one in which the people involved are open
about their feelings. So when asked about a good parent,
a good professor, a good neighbor, or a good friend, feelings
always comes up no matter what. I think that we as americans
have put so much value on what the individual thinks that we
have gone from considering the most external to the most
internal. But because going to the most internal takes extra
effort, most "good" relationships, "good"
friends,
"good" parents, etc., involve the consideration of feelings
in them.
I hope this helps some in the understanding of Americans
openness to feelings.
