History and Past Workshops
In the last few years we have witnessed growing evidence of the role of quantum mechanical effects in a wide range of biological processes including photosynthesis, olfaction, bird navigation, and ion transport. The identification and characterization of quantum effects in such diverse processes defines an interdisciplinary research field, ‘Quantum Effects in Biology’, which has captured both the public imagination and scientific curiosity. The QuEBS annual workshop has been an international forum to bring together researchers in chemistry, physics, biology, material science, and quantum information science. Following the success of the previous workshops (
Lisbon 2009,
Harvard 2010,
Ulm 2011,
Berkeley 2012,
Vienna 2013), the 2014 QuEBS workshop will be held in Singapore with the hope of expanding its global impacts to a new continent.
