Friday, April 11
MIT will again join Harvard and other Boston-area schools to march across the Charles River to Copley Square. This time, it will take place AFTER classes. Gather in front of 77 Mass Ave at 3:00 PM. Copley Square convergence at 4:00 PM. Saturday, April 12 DEATH AND TAXES, March from IRS to Raytheon in Andover, MA Andover, MA has the unfortunate distinction of hosting the IRS New England Regional HQ and, 1/4 mile down the road, Raytheon Corporation, the 3RD LARGEST defense contractor in the country. Raytheon is the maker of the Tomohawk cruise missile, that has a price tag of almost $1 million apiece. We have launched approximately 400 of these weapons of mass destruction in this war. Our taxes should be funding schools and health care, not death. Bring your costumes, banners, and instruments for a 'festival or resistance', featuring the Bread and Puppet Theatre, Jedi Knights Against Imperialism, The MIT Cogs Against the War Machine, and some surprises. Andover is 40 minutes from Cambridge. If you need a ride contact Eli (ebeckerman@wesleyan.edu) or Julia (julias@mit.edu) Tuesday, April 15 TAX DAY DEMONSTRATION On tax day itself, there are always hundreds of people (and t.v. cameras) standing in line at the Central Square and South Station Post Offices waiting to give the US Government their money. What a perfect opportunity to educate people about how their money is being spent. You won't believe the giant pie charts. MITAWC and dozens of Boston-area affinity groups will be performing street theatre, conducting popular education and even handing out information on how to divert your tax money away from the defense industry. Did we mention giant pie charts? For more information, contact Jeff (jdu@mit.edu) Also, INFORMATION on War-Tax Resistance, visit: www.warresisters.org/wtr_menu.htm Monday, April 21 PATRIOTS DAY AND BOSTON MARATHON Patriots Day is a full holiday in Boston--everyone has off to watch the Marathon. Colorful anti-war actions will be taking place across the city. Runners will be wearing anti-war patches, peace signs will appear at mile markers and large banners will unfurl at key locations. Other events are in the planning stages. |
