broadcloth

medium-weight fabric of cotton or cotton/manufactured yarn blend, characterized by fine crosswise ribs. heavier two-ply combed yarns used in filling to produce the ribs in best qualities of broadcloth. may be bleached, dyed, or printed. used for dresses, shirts, blouses, and sportswear. broadcloth may also be made from wool. rayon and polyester are blended to make a fabric similar to broadcloth.
