safari (bush) jacket

was originally worn in Africa on hunting expeditions, and made of khaki-colored cotton with peaked labels, single-breasted front, belt, and four large bellows pickets. Made in all types of fabrics when fashionable in the 1960s, when it was introduced as a fashion item for women by Dior. Newer versions in 1980s styled without a belt and with epaulets. Name derived from African hunting trip for which a similar style jacket is worn.
