Dr. Hatakenaka is a specialist in organizational and policy issues for higher education and innovation systems. She uses a comparative approach for examining different national/regional institutional systems, capitalizing on her international experience, which includes in-depth work in a dozen or so countries. Her recent research includes cross-country comparisons of university-industry relationships and the role of universities in industrial innovations. She is currently a Senior Associate Member at St. Anthony’s College, Oxford University.
She holds a B.A. in Physics from Oxford University, an M.P.A in public policy from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in management from the Sloan School of Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She worked at the World Bank for nearly a decade, focussing on economic strategies in human resources development and science and technology. Today, she continues her advisory work for governments and universities worldwide. Her publications include University-Industry Partnerships in MIT, Cambridge and Tokyo: Storytelling across boundaries (Routledge, 2004).
