Directions

Shivaree
Burton-Conner Dormitory
Porter Room
410 Memorial Drive
Cambridge, MA 02139

Hey look! We have some handy printouts with the directions on them. You can view them in Microsoft Word format, Adobe Acrobat (pdf) format, or postscript format. You should take a look at these even if you know where Burton-Conner is, since it tells you how to find the Dining Room once inside.

I've done some checking around, and it looks like parking is feasible near Burton-Conner in the Kresge Lot. The directions mentioned in the previous paragraph tell you where to park. I still suggest fewer cars, if possible, just in case.

Here's a larger map with Burton-Conner, the Kresge Parking Lot, and the University Park Hotel.

To take the subway, get out at the Central Square stop on the Red line, use this map to get yourself to the University Park Hotel, and then follow the directions in the printout.

Helping Out

As you might expect, there's a lot going on behind the scenes to prepare for the shivaree. First, let me assure you that it's all going smoothly. This section is not intended as a guilt trip to make you help out. We've got all of our proverbial ducks in a row. On the other hand, if you'd like to help out, there are some things you could do. Meg Ringrose is in charge of food (which seems like work, but she assures me it's play), which is where the bulk of the help is needed. If you'd like to help out, send one or both of us an email. Our email addresses are marleigh@mit.edu and mccall@ai.mit.edu

Help is split roughly into "Jobs" and "Stuff". Jobs refer to manpower, where stuff refers to things we'd like to borrow.

A few highlights of simple things lots of people can do:

Bake Cookies
Says Meg, "I was trying to think of dessert things that would be very different than the sort of stuff restaurants make for receptions :-), and I decided homemade cookies are the right answer. There are many great things about cookies. Lots of people like to make them. They come in a great variety. Lots of people like to eat them. They freeze well. You can eat just one or two. They don't require plates or serving utensils. My proposal: anyone who wants to should tell me what sort of cookie they plan to make (so we don't end up all with one kind), and make a few dozen cookies. If people would like to make cookies ahead of time I would be happy to store them in my deep freeze. People can bring cookies directly to the party, or drop them off with me and I'll bring them."
Games
People will be sitting around, playing games. If you have a game you'd like to bring, please do so. If you want to tell me what you're bringing so we don't end up with 9 copies of Settlers, that'd be terribly clever.
Pictionary / Charades Suggestions
People seem to like charades and pictionary, so we should have some slips already made up for people to pull out of a hat. We'll put your name on it, so you can still play for clues you didn't put in. Everyone email me a few suggestions. Rate them Easy, Medium, Hard, and Abusive. After that, we'll need to print and fold them.
Friday Night Food Prep
Friday night May 23rd- food prep. 7pm - 11pm, at Meg's
Saturday Baking and Other Making
Baking lots of rolls, making palak paneer, and getting everything ready to transport and serve. Also at Meg's.
Monday Potwash
The great pot wash, kitchen cleaning, and leftover enjoyment. No earlier than 2pm; time may vary depending on other commitments for the day. Again, at Meg's.
For all those bits that say "at Meg's", here is Meg's address:

Megan Ringrose
329 Highland Ave.
Somerville, MA

And some directions to her place (follow the "From MIT" directions if you're coming from the University Park Hotel.)
