DME Frequently Asked Questions

Why DME? DME is for anyone interested in mechanical engineering, whether or not they intend to major in it. It is intended to give all participants a chance to see what mechanical engineers really do, and to have fun!

Who can participate in DME? All incoming freshman [including those attending International Orientation and those in Interphase] can be in DME. No prior experience in mechanical engineering is necessary, just enthusiasm. To apply, fill out the online application form, making sure to answer the extra DME questions at the bottom.

What do I need to know before starting DME? Absolutely nothing! We will teach you all the machining and electrical skills you need to build your SoccerBot.

How much does DME cost? DME is completely free for freshmen, thanks to our sponsors. All meals will be provided.

How can I get to campus from Logan Airport? There will be a free shuttle between Logan and MIT both Monday and Tuesday. Please sign up with MIT if you will use the shuttle. Alternatively, you can also take the Boston T subway system to the Kendall/MIT stop on the Red Line

Where will I stay during DME? Students will be housed in their assigned dorm room during DME, and will stay in the same room for regular Orientation. To rank your housing preferences, visit the housing lottery site.
