ACF has a variety of ministries, each tailored to meet a specifc purpose. These include weekly large group meetings for the entire fellowship, small groups for deeper studies, and a prayer team. Large Group Every Friday from 7-9pm in the Mccormick Brown Living Room, the entire ACF community meets together for Large Group. These meetings usually include times of worship through contemporary song, times of prayer, learning from Scripture, discussing the struggles and joys of our faith, and just having fun. Some of last year's large group topics included: Major World Religions, Friendships, Dating and Relationships, God's Heart and Missions, Stewardship of Time and Money, Poverty and the Christian Respoonse, Loneliness, Asian American and Christian Identity, and Racial Reconciliation (just to name a few). You can find more detailed resources and powerpoint presentations on some of these topics at the old Staff Corner. Small Groups Our small groups give us the chance to grow deeper in community and study passages and topics in more detail. Here, both the young and the mature in faith can learn spiritual truths and tangible practices which foster greater intimacy with God, in the company of friends. Small groups are typically no more than half a dozen people meeting once a week for a little under two hours. They are usually arranged for students of similar age and gender. ACF currently supports seven small groups. If you want to know more about the small group ministry, contact the leaders at mitacf-sgl. Prayer Ministry Prayer is an integral part of ACF's ministry. Since prayer helps us grow closer to God both as individuals and as a community, we have a Prayer Team whose aim is to learn about and help the fellowship grow in prayer. Among other things, they lead our weekly prayer meetings, one hour before large group (6PM Friday). Groups Investigating God (GIGs) GIGs are small to mid-sized groups designed for people who are interested in discussing the claims of Jesus and Christianity with other people who are also still investigating. The groups will also contain one to two believers who lead the discussion. The one hour meetings are geared toward studying Biblical passages in an interactive manner. GIGs usually form when individuals in ACF and non-Christian friends who are connected to them get excited about the idea. ACF will typically see about half a dozen GIGs form in any given semester. If you are interested in joining one or leading one, talk to someone on the staff team. Retreats Retreats provide the opportunity to get away from MIT and spend time with God in community for extended periods of time. ACF usually goes on the following retreats: Fall conference, Winter retreat (weekend before spring Reg Day), Urban Plunge (week of spring break), and Chapter Camp (the entire week after finals). |
