Common Questions
- Is the MRI safe?
MRI is a valuable tool used in research and clinical environments. The static magnetic fields used in MRI have no known long-term adverse effects on human or animal tissue. Unlike X-rays or CT scans, MRI does not use ionizing radiation. The major risk of the MR environment is the strong pull of the magnet on any ferromagnetic object. We take every precaution to keep such objects out of the scanner room. Individuals who have metal in their bodies (pacemakers, for example) are ineligible for MRI studies. - Will I be given my results?
Yes, upon request you will be given all raw data collected from your participation. We can not provide any interpretation of the data nor are the images clinically certified, but you will be able to share your data with your doctor who can help you understand the results of the tests. - Where is the study located?
Sessions 1-3 will be conducted on MIT’s main campus in Cambridge MA. Session 4 will take place at the Massachusetts General Hospital Martinos Center in Charlestown MA. Free parking will be provided.
