Research Symposium on the Convention of the Future

On May 21 and 22, 2003, The MIT Convention of the Future project gathered industry, technology and academic leaders in a two-day brain-storming symposium to discuss perspectives on the future of the convention, exhibition and meeting industries. This event was jointly convened by the School of Architecture and Planning and the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority.

In two days of discussions and presentations, the focus was on the similarities of mission and challenge shared by these industries and major research universities, as well as the computer architecture of the new learning environment that affords entirely new options for Web service applications. These explorations were complimented by reference project demonstrations and presentations of proven solutions for content management, logistics and multimedia services that could be brought to bear by the industries, fostering potentially radical improvement in meeting environments and mobile learning. The symposium closed with a look at how industry and MIT have collaborated in other contexts, producing ground-breaking research and innovation.
