The New Media Center (NMC) is one of four physical Experimental Learning Environments (ELE) managed by the Office of Educational Innovation and Technology. These spaces are intended as incubators for testing new or different technologically enhanced pedagogical paradigms. We host a suite of technologies, applications and tools in these physical spaces. Additionally, we have collaborative tools and software environments which distribute our ELE’s , with respect to time and space, into Virtual Learning Environments.
The NMC provides the MIT community the tools necessary to produce multimedia projects, such as digital video, photo scanning and manipulation, web authoring, and more. The NMC is a "do-it-yourself" cluster of twelve 24" iMacs loaded with multimedia software.
The NMC is located in 26-139 and, when a class isn’t using the NMC (Schedule), the room is open to the MIT community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Access to this room is controlled via a keypad lock to allow access to students, faculty and staff.
To reserve this room for your class, please see Schedule .
Note: The NMC cluster's intended purpose is for multimedia work. For email, web browsing, and other general computer uses, please use another cluster.
At times other than those listed below, the NMC is open as a "do-it-yourself" multimedia cluster for students, faculty and staff. Please check the schedule below before entering to be sure you are not interrupting a class. Access to this room is controlled via a keypad lock to allow access to students, faculty and staff.
The NMC (room 26-139) is reserved and closed to the public during the times below:
Reservations and Appointments
Priority is given to those whose pedagogical needs are new, interesting or different. Because the NMC is an “Experimental Learning Environments”, we (OEIT) expect to learn from your unique pedagogical application, so encourage you to have a plan to provide us feedback and/or have an assessment plan in place to help us evaluate these Environments so that we (OEIT) can generate a compendium of Best Practices and allow the MIT community to benefit from these technologies.
If you would like to reserve this room or would like more information, contact NMC-Consult@mit.edu. Please allow 1 week advance notice for appointments. Please note: reservations for peak times often fill up early. Make your reservation as soon as you can.
