Room 26-139 (New Media Center)

Access to this room is controlled by a simplex keypad. The code is typically changed once per year, usually in the beginning of the Fall term. It is the same as the code used on all the other Athena Clusters.  To get the code:

1. Log into an Athena Cluster machine
2. At the prompt you would type,
   ATHENA$>tellme combo
3. The resulting response:
   ATHENA$>tellme combo
   The cluster combo is # - # - # - # - #.

Place your files in a folder named with your Kerberos ID.

NOTE: The machines in the NMC have a limited amount of disk space.  We ask that you be considerate to other users and not leave large video projects on the machines for more than 2 weeks.  Files that have not been modified for 2 weeks or longer are automatically purged from the file space.

Make sure that FCP is configured to use the SCRATCH partition as its own scratch disk.

There are two EPSON applications:

One is in the Applications/Utilities folder,

/Applications/Utilities/Epson Scan Settings

the other is in the /Applications folder,

/Applications/Epson Scan

First Step

1. Run Epson Scan Settings
2. Click on the 'TEST' Button to verify that the scanner is available
3. Click 'OK'

Last Step

1. Run the Epson Scan Application
2. Choose your settings and scan

How do I log into a workstation?

Use your kerberos Username and password.

My files have disappeared, what happened?
User files stored in the scratch space of each workstation are deleted after two weeks if that user has not logged-in in that timeframe.

I can't log into a machine, what do I do?
You will need to reset your preferences, proceed as follows:

If you know how to ssh into athena you are 50% of the way there. so here go the command line instructions:
1. ssh username@athena.dialup (or simply find an Athena workstation and login directly)
2. rm -rf ~/MacData/Library/Caches
3. rm -rf ~/MacData/Library/MacAthena
4. mv ~/MacData/Library/Preferences ~/MacData/Library/Preferences_hosed
at this point you should be able to login without issue.

I am having problems launching Adobe CS applications, what do I do?
You will need to reset your Adobe preferences, proceed as follows:

1. login. DO NOT START ANY ADOBE APPLICATIONS.
2. start /Applications/Utilities/Terminal
3. cut and paste the following commands (one line at a time, followed by pressing 'Return' key)
rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe
rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/Adobe
rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe*
rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.*
