Programming Work looking for motifs

Over the summer of 2005 I worked under George Stephanopolous in the Chemical Engineering department on two major bioinformatics projects. The first involved creating a script in python that analyzed amino acid sequences to find matches between separate sequences to allow for the location of similar behaving protiens.

In a related project, the sequence match files were analyzed against an organized amino acid sequence database (SCOP) for the accuracy of the program. The result was presented in receiver operating curves that represented the number of true positives versus the false positives (sensitivity versus specificity).
