ResTech Initiative (Spring 2005)
Executive Summary
IS&T in conjunction with RL/SLP is launching an initiative
for the spring of 2005 around delivering information
technology experiments in the MIT residence halls. In broad
strokes, the goals of the initiative are three-fold:
- To deliver two- to four focused experiments around technology, learning spaces, and community
- To produce a current assessment of technology
deployments and infrastructure in the residence halls and
its impact on life and learning, along with a set of
standards recommendations for MIT (sometimes called the
"Red Book" standard)
- To create an on-line community and knowledge base as
well as a set of processes for on-going collaboration and
engagement around technology-enabled life and learning in
MIT's residential communities
Resources
We are using the Stellar
course management system to make available and archive a
lot of the design documents, meeting notes, and other
materials generated as part of this initiative. Here you will
also find a schedule of events and milestones related to our
work.
We are running a Confluence
server as a community-maintained knowledge base and idea
repository. This server also runs several other ResTech
related spaces. The general ResTech space links to those. Here
you can find (or create!) serious and not so serious project
ideas, shared knowledge about technology in MIT's residential
communities, and multimedia content about various learning
spaces and experiments in the dorms and elsewhere.
