I may build a new set of thrones... The current
ones are nice, but too
big and a lot of work.
I have considered restarting the Carolingian
encampment at pennsic
for all of those people who do not have a
household.
I will not be the judge of brewing
competitions.
Sorry, I am allergic to
alcohol. I will instead appoint an
official "Food
Taster" at events that
require such judging. :)

I think that last part is probably the key difference between me and
Aquel (or Johanna). I would hope that our courts would be a little more
formal -- not stuffy, just a different kind of fun. More noble, somehow.
Also, unlike Aquel, I have email ;-) which does make it easier for the
populace to reach me.
We have a different style than Aquel and Johanna. I think of Johanna as the
Mother of the whole Barony and I think I'd be more like one of those
classical ladies from whom poets drew inspiration. (Both types were embodied
in Queen Elizabeth I, by the way). Both Aleksandr and myself have pretty
well defined personas (late 16th century Russian and English, respectively),
which I'm sure will color our tenure. Aquel and Johanna did such a good job
that it's hard to think of doing much differently.

I don't know. There is always room for improvment and change, but I
cannot point to any one thing or situation and say "I want to change
that, or fix this."
I have no criticism of how the current Baron and Baroness fulfill
their job. Their strengths are not the same as my strengths. To do my
best I would build on my strengths. From my background as founding
Seneschal of Lough Devnaree (Ireland) I have a great affinity for new
people and students, so I would probably drift towards supporting the
Boroughs and recruitment. I personally love heraldry and pomp on the
battlefield, and would love to see a resurgence of the Pike Company. I
have a weakness for Shakespeare, and would like to see a more
involved, theater-in-the-round like approach to court. But, in the
end, the Baron and Baroness are responsible for meeting the needs of
the people. Where they direct, I will lead.

I think Johanna & Aquel have done a wonderful job and
I admire them
enormously. Due to the history of old Carolingian
Rapier Company, they
chose not to have a baronial guard, emphasizing the
baronial champions
instead. I would probably have a guard again (in
addition to the
champions), but do it differently than we did under
Patri. I would like
it to have 2 people from each of the martial arts
(rattan, fencing,
archery, thrown weapons), who would be nominated by
the marshalls of
those activities. These people would not be the most
experienced or best
fighters, but the "up and coming" types who showed a
lot of promise.
They would serve for a year or two, and then new
people would replace
them. That way the guard wouldn't get to be a stuffy
organization. It
would add some nice pagentry to our events, and
hopefully be a learning
opportunity for the people in it. I was also thinking
of having a couple
of baronial "pages" who would be A&S or service
people, which would work
the same way. It would be a chance for a little
mentoring.

I will put a bit more pomp and pagentry into the
Barony. I would like
give Carolingia a more impressive appearance at
court and at
wars. I would like to bring back some of the
panoply of the CRC without
restricting it to exclusively the fencers.
