MIT Fellows

PATERA, Anthony T.
SMA Co-Director
Professor of Mechanical Engineering, MIT

Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics - MIT 1982

Expertise: Scientific and engineering computation; computational methods and numerical analysis for partial differential equations, in particular spectral, finite element, and reduced-basis discretizations and associated rigorous a posteriori error estimation approaches; design optimization and optimal control; applied mechanics, in particular fluid dynamics, transport phenomenon, and stability theory; and parallel processing. Current research activity: Reliable real-time solution of the partial differential equations of heat transfer, solid mechanics, and fluid dynamics with application to adaptive design, optimal control, and robust parameter estimation.
