I forgot my password.

I need to print a MITSIS screen and don't know how.

See documentation from the Computing Help Desk on updating the ICA.

I have never used MITSIS before and don't know where to start.

1. The appropriate person in your department must ask the MITSIS accounts team to create a new user account for you using the MITSIS user account request form.

2. You need access to Telnet software so that you can connect to MITSIS:

If you have a PC, you need HostExplorer. You can download it by going to:
http://itinfo.mit.edu/product?name=hostexplorer&platform=Windows

If you have a Mac running OS/X, you can use Citrix and Host Explorer to access MITSIS.

If you have a Mac running OS/9 (no longer supported by IS&T), there are two unsupported ways to access MITSIS: through Better Telnet (no longer available for download from IS&T) or through Citrix (although Citrix on OS9 is not supported by IS&T).

Once the MITSIS accounts team has set up your account, a member of the team will call you or your supervisor with your temporary password. (For security reasons, we cannot email passwords.) Once you have your password, you can log in to MITSIS.

I need to get someone in my office a new MITSIS user account.*

Use the MITSIS user account request form. A member of the MITSIS accounts team will call you or the user back with a temporary password.

*In most cases, new accounts can be copied from an existing account. However, if you need to create an account that is not like any existing account in your department, or if you need to give a current user additional access, please send email outlining your needs to ssit-iteam@mit.edu.

I am having trouble connecting to MITSIS.

Possible reasons:

You may be attempting to access MITSIS during a time when it is unavailable.

MITSIS may be temporarily unavailable due to planned downtime or an unexpected problem.

You may be having connectivity problems.

Mac OS/X users: You may be having problems related to Citrix.

You may be attempting to access MITSIS during a time when it is unavailable.
MITSIS is unavailable from 3:00 am through 6:00 am daily (except Sunday), due to backup.

MITSIS may be temporarily unavailable due to planned downtime or an unexpected problem.
If MITSIS needs to be taken down for planned maintenance, you will receive email ahead of time giving an approximate time frame for the downtime. Once the downtime is over, you will receive email telling you that MITSIS is available.

If MITSIS is unavailable due to an unexpected problem, you will receive email with an estimate of the expected downtime. Once the problem has been resolved, you will receive email telling you that MITSIS is available.

If you cannot connect to MITSIS and you have not received email, you can also call 3-DOWN (x3-3696) or check the 3DOWN web site (http://nic.mit.edu/3down/) maintained by Information Systems for announcements of MITSIS outages and network problems.

You may be having connectivity problems.
If you are having trouble connecting to MITSIS during times when it is available, send email to ssit-iteam@mit.edu. It is helpful for us to know the following:

What are you seeing on your screen? If you are seeing any error messages, please include them in your message.
How soon do you need this problem resolved? Do you need to use MITSIS immediately?

Mac OS/X users: You may be having problems related to Citrix.
If you have set up Citrix following all of the steps in the documentation and are having trouble connecting to MITSIS, contact the Computing Help Desk at computing-help@mit.edu for immediate assistance.

I forgot my password.

Use the MITSIS account password request form. The MITSIS accounts team will reset your password and call you with your temporary password.

To ensure the system's security, MITSIS forces you to change your password every 90 days. Passwords must be at least 6 characters in length and can be a combination of numbers and letters, but they may not be English language words.

I need to print a MITSIS screen and don't know how.

Once you have accessed MITSIS through Host Explorer (either in the Windows environment or through Citrix for those running Mac OS/X*), go to File and select Print Screen.

*All MITSIS users should now be accessing MITSIS through Host Explorer. If you have a PC, you download Host Explorer and get telnet access to MITSIS. If you have a Mac running OS/X (the IS&T-supported configuration) you run Host Explorer through Citrix, which emulates a Windows environment.
