01 railings

A week is a long time to contemplate railings. Here's what I have so far.

I like this. I think a lot is going to depend on how you choose your words... 'railing' is a good one. These words should have multiple shades and dimensions for it to be interesting... like 'glass' - broken glass, looking glass, glass eye, eyeglasses, etc. The more associations/extensions you can draw upon the better. You're finding the metaphors in the language and instead of expressing them in words, you translate the meanings into images - a montage - a slice of all human experience having to do with 'railings'. I like this. I like this a lot.

I'd be interested to see you work with a verb-noun hybrid at some point... what do you think of 'fall'?

actually, railing is a noun-verb hybrid. the verb form of "rail" means "to rally against". i thought about incorporating that into my notes but decided to focus on design rather than semantic trickery.

i'm still not entirely sure of the direction that where all this is going. i could certainly go for a more literary bent.

I like the idea of railing. You have moved the notion of railing up one level abstraction and projected it back down into practicality by giving examples of what else can be considered railing. I think the suitcase is my favorite, but does it satisfy all the conditions? is it stable?

also, I like the cat. meow ^_^
